Stable Paths

Home School Ranch Hands

Stable Paths

Ages: 11+
Duration: 4 hours
Cost: Free
Schedule: Select Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Current Cycle: September 20, 27 and October 11, 18

November 15, 29

December 13, 27

Overview:
Stable Paths is a free equine-assisted substance abuse prevention program for youth affected by alcohol or addiction—whether personally or within their families. Participants work hands-on with rescued senior horses and receive mentorship from licensed drug and alcohol counselors and volunteers from the recovery community.

What Makes It Different:
Youth take full responsibility for their assigned horse’s care—feeding, grooming, and handling basic medical needs. These horses often have special care requirements due to age or trauma, encouraging participants to develop empathy, patience, and problem-solving skills. Horses provide real-time, nonjudgmental feedback, helping youth build emotional awareness, confidence, and trust.

Life Skills in Action:
Through horse-handling exercises, participants learn leadership, emotional regulation, boundary-setting, and clear communication. These experiences translate directly into everyday life.

Lunch & Connection:
Each session includes a provided lunch where youth and mentors gather for relaxed, meaningful conversation. These mealtime talks often become the heart of the day — a chance to reflect, connect, and support each other in a safe, judgment-free space.

Riding:
While not guaranteed, riding may be offered to participants who show responsibility, respect, and readiness.

Attendance Matters:
Because this is a free and limited-space program, we ask participants to honor their commitment. Missing a session may prevent another youth from having the chance to join.

Also, please note that if you are trying to sign up for this class because it is free, please contact us and we will get your child a scholarship or subsidized tuition in the Ranch Hands program. We talk about intense things at times in Stable Paths that is not appropriate for kids not in these circumstances.

Scheduling:
Offered on select Saturdays throughout the year, depending on available funding. Thanks to our generous supporters, Stable Paths remains free and accessible—giving youth a safe, meaningful way to grow and heal through the power of horses.

You can register for one or all sessions, whatever your schedule allows.

Barn Buddies

Veteran and Law Enforcement Horse Time

Veteran and Law Enforcement Horse Time

Barn Buddies (Ages 4–7)

Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: $65 (reflects a 50% discount)
Schedule: Occasional Saturday mornings, by appointment only

Overview:
Barn Buddies is a special, very limited session designed for our youngest horse lovers (ages 4–6). These sessions are offered only a few times a year and are best suited for families looking for a gentle introduction to horses for their little ones. Because young children require extra support and supervision, sessions are kept small: usually just one or two children, with a parent or guardian staying to help. When possible, we may combine families for shared experiences.

What to Expect:

  • One-on-one or very small group instruction

  • Hands-on time with the horses: brushing, leading, simple chores, and occasional riding (when possible and safe)

  • Parent or guardian participation is required

Please Note:
Due to the high level of supervision needed, Barn Buddies is offered rarely and only by advance request. For most families, we recommend our Family Horse Time sessions, which allow everyone to participate together and are easier to schedule.

Scheduling:
If you are interested in a Barn Buddy session, please contact us to discuss availability. We may suggest combining your session with another family when possible.

Payment Policy:
All payments are non-refundable.

Barn Policies

 Quick Overview

We know policies aren’t fun to read — but they help protect the horses, the kids, and the barn environment we all love. Here are a few key takeaways:

  • Payments are non-refundable, and your spot isn’t saved until payment is made.

  • We do not accommodate “overparenting.” Kids are encouraged to work through challenges and develop resilience.

  • Weight limits are enforced for the safety of our horses.

  • Barn behavior matters — please be respectful to animals, people, and space.

➡ Please read the full policy below if you're joining us for any session.
