Our Mission
The Whole Horse Place's mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of old horses and humans of all ages by fostering bonds through comprehensive horse care and education. We partner senior horses with children and adults of all abilities, foster children, and the broader community. We rescue senior horses and give them new purpose in teaching humans responsibility, confidence, self respect, resiliency, and emotional honesty.
Welcome!
The Whole Horse Place is an all volunteer facility that offers unique horse experiences for the average person with little or no horse exposure. We are not a riding facility- we are a place you can be with horses, bond with them, take care of them, and ride sometimes. You will ride, but riding is not guaranteed every session, and it is not our focus. We teach you everything about them and give you time with them, to connect and develop bonds, to understand them, and to make your world a better place because of it.
Philosophy
Our Approach
We have a direct approach in all of our teaching opportunities here. Our understanding is that your child or yourself wants to be here, and that they/you are here to learn, and our job is to teach you to be safe and have the best experience possible. We will not coddle nor cater to your child, we will not negotiate with them, and we WILL let them get frustrated and fail. The kids here learn to problem solve and to be resilient when they are told honestly how they are performing and when they are given the chance to correct and to regulate themselves. Of course we help and supervise, and we will praise them when they deserve it, but under no circumstances do we swoop in and take away their chance to learn.
